Our fall topic studio is called house of pictures. Our teacher is Peter Tolkin and we are using images as inspiration for a small residential gallery. We dont have a site but Tolkin is thinking of these abandoned track house (aka trash house) developments somewhere east of school (aka riverside). I think it would be interesting to look at this studio as an opportunity to provide a model for occupying the thousands of useless homes that no one can afford, at least for the moment.
Our first assignment was to document a home that interested us with some kind of photo representation. We also read Alberti's Book 1 and Book 1 (cont.) which documents his investigations and methods in representing 3 dimensional space in 2 dimensions which basically revolutionized the world of painting during the renaissance. The text was rather mathematical in nature, starting from the definition of a point to a line to a plane, etc. ultimately expressing Alberti's establishment of the modern 2 point perspective with a horizon line and vanishing point.
My collage documented a small home near my house, its pinned up in studio and I forgot to take my camera. It'll be posted soon.
